When you’re slicing up your code into appropriate functions you need a way to stitch these functions together to implement meaningful capabilities. While chaining calls is an easy way to get started, it might get problematic when latency starts to add up, or your system becomes hard to change because of too much peer-to-peer communication. Messaging, events or orchestration might be worth considering, each with its own ups and downs.
In this talk I will discuss the various approaches – not only using slides, but source code available on GitHub. I will look at what workflows can bring to the mix and demonstrate examples using AWS Step Functions, as well as Open Source tools.
This talk should show various possibilities on a conceptual but also code level – so attendees can walk away with a concrete idea of how to do function coordination for their use cases.
