Kickstarting a charity with serverless technologies

Using the in production example of Azure and Bookmark Reading, a new charity tackling illiteracy within the UK, this session will demonstrate how serverless technologies can be used by small teams to accelerate development and reduce ongoing total cost of ownership, enabling organisations to tackle projects that otherwise may have been unachievable – and in the case of a charity ensure that more of their limited resources go towards directly helping those in need.

We’ll look at constraints, high level architecture and technology choices, deployment, the key C# patterns used, costs, what went well and what didn’t.

Objective of the talk

  • Demonstrate how to make effective use of serverless technologies
  • Finding the balance between time to market and long term viability
  • Illustrate C# patterns that work well with Azure Functions
  • Show a 100% serverless compute architecture on Azure
  • Highlight common problems / issues

Required audience experience

A basic understanding of what serverless is and some familiarity with C# is helpful.
